Often corporate effort of DEI attempt to open up powerful positions that are mainly held by men also for women. At closer look we need to acknowledge, that in practice that means these efforts are driven by and yield reward to white women, to be exact. While this development is understandable in parts, it overlooks the exclusion of other marginalized groups. Consequentially, the impact of diversity efforts extended the group of beneficiaries to white women next to white men, while keeping the system of injustice in place. That however, cannot be the (only) goal of DEI endeavors. Let’s look at the drawbacks for everyone of upholding that system, what we can do to widen our DEI efforts to include other underrepresented groups and the bigger shared benefit we yield from that.
