The "leaky pipeline" sometimes does not even get enough flow coming in and usually that little bit of bright female talent that enters it "leaks out" at several points. Research has now helped us to understand why we are not getting these women in or even losing all them from STEM fields and in particular engineering, but how do we fix this problem in practice? Using years of experience with outreach, teaching and mentoring at different levels starting from little girls spanning to experienced professional women, this talk will provide useful tips and communication strategies how attract girls and women to technical fields and how to support women working in STEM to progress to successful careers and stay. The talk focuses on combatting gender stereotypes, work and life balance, self-esteem, stereotype, support and networking as key factors that will help us reach equal opportunities and motivation for everyone in engineering.
