"One day, someone will find out that I’m actually not capable at all...". Does this sound familiar? Imposter Syndrome describes the persistent feeling of self-doubt and perceived fraudulence despite evident success. The resulting mindset can have significant consequences: reduced confidence, reluctance to take on leadership roles, career stagnation, and even chronic stress. This is widespread in performance-driven environments — such as engineering. Women in this field face an elevated risk due to multiple factors. This talk explores how and why Imposter Syndrome affects women in engineering disproportionately and how to recognize it. In addition, it considers potential positive aspects and how underlying drivers could be constructively channeled to create benefits. Building on these insights, practical strategies for navigating and mitigating the internal barriers will be shared to empower ourselves and each other in personal and professional development.
