François Hébert was born in Manitoba, Canada, in 1961. He received the B. A. Sc, M. A. Sc, and Ph. D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in 1984, 1985, and 1988, respectively.

From 1988 to 1993, he was Engineering Scientist - Group Leader at Avantek Corp. (acquired by HP/Avago/Broadcom) in Newark, CA, where he designed and developed RF and Microwave Bipolar Devices and Integrated Circuits.

From 1993 to 1995, he was Senior Engineering Manager at National Semiconductor (now TI), in Santa Clara, CA, involved in the development of high-performance analog technologies, including high-voltage complementary-bipolar technologies, SOI and BCD technologies.

From 1995 to 1999, he was Director of Semiconductor Technology, Spectrian Corporation (now Cree), based in Sunnyvale, CA, where he managed the development of RF-Bipolar and RF-LDMOS (Bottom-Source) discrete products for high-power base station applications in the 900 MHz to 2.5 GHz.

From 1999 to 2004 he was Integration Manager at Linear Technology Corporation (now ADI), in Milpitas, CA, leading the development and release to production of high-performance Silicon and SiGe Bipolar, CMOS, BiCMOS and BCD, embedded-NVM technologies for Analog, Mixed-Signal, Power and High-Reliability applications.

From 2004 to 2006, he was VP of Semiconductor Technology at Fultec (now Bourns), in Mountain View, CA, responsible for the development and manufacturing of Silicon and Silicon Carbide devices (to 2500V) and circuits for high-performance solid-state Lightning, Transient and Surge Protection Devices and Products.

From 2006 to 2008, he was CTO of Alpha and Omega Semiconductor, in Sunnyvale, CA where he led and managed the technology development (process, device and advanced packaging), supported the Power Discrete and Power-IC Design groups and managed Intellectual Property.

From 2008 to 2012 he as VP of Technology Development at Intersil Corporation (now Renesas) where he was responsible for all of the process, device and integrated circuit technology development programs (Discrete, Complementary-Bipolar, BCD, SOI, GaN, embedded-NVM, ESD and PDK), for Analog, Mixed-Signal, Sensor (Optical) and Power Management and High-Reliability Radiation-Hardened Products.

From 2012 to 2015 he was VP of Engineering at MagnaChip Semiconductors, in Cupertino, CA and in Korea, where he led the development of Analog, Mixed-Signal and Power BCD, UHV, SOI, embedded-NVM and Sensor (Optical and Magnetic) technologies and IP Management in Korea, and led a Power Management DC-DC Design Team in California.

From 2015 to 2020, he was President and GM at Vanguard International Semiconductor, based in the Campbell, CA VIS-Micro site and in Taiwan, responsible for World-Wide Business Development of Logic, Mixed-Signal, eFlash, Silicon PMIC and UHV to 700V, Sensors (Optical, Capacitive, Magnetic, X-Ray, MEMS), Silicon Discrete and a unique 200mm GaN on Engineered Substrate technologies. He was also responsible for all North American Sales, Account Management, Business Development and Field Technical Support activities.

From 2017 to 2020, he was a Member of the Board of Qromis Inc in Santa Clara, CA. Qromis is a fabless materials Start-Up Company focused on Engineered Substrates (QST®) which are CTE matched to the Epi layers to be grown on the Substrates (including GaN).

François joined GlobalFoundries (Santa Clara, CA) in May 2020, as VP/CTO Power, in the Automotive, Industrial and Multi-Market Strategic Business Unit, where he is driving and supporting the development and release to production of advanced Specialty Technologies.

François has more than 185 Granted U.S. Patents and more than 200 Foreign and Pending U.S. Patents.
