WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE INDUSTRY ROUNDTABLE
Date & Time
Friday, October 16, 2020, 1:00 PM - 1:25 PM
Dr. Douglas Kirkpatrick Steve Papa Pietro Rabbeni
Description

It is well understood that network densification is a necessity to realize the full promise of 5G in delivering high data rates, low latency and high user capacity.  This of course poses some challenges to operators not only in terms of capex and opex to support such a massive buildout but also requires scalability to break a one-size-fits-all mold to allow the network to adapt to various usage conditions and environments.  The aim of Open RAN is to help standardize interfaces between the RU and DU/CU to allow commercialization of hardware and software that enable greater interoperability across hardware from multiple suppliers. In this panel, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities that Open RAN presents for both large and small companies alike and understand how foundry technologies can help usher in this new approach to network deployment and differentiation.
